The cost of car insurance could be cut if the government restricted the huge number of subjective whiplash injury claims, a committee of MPs says.

Insurer Aviva has analysed claims dating back to the 1860s and found some odd surprises.

Insurers have already begun adjusting prices in preparation for the EU ban on the use of gender as a discriminating factor when pricing motor insurance, according to Tiger.co.uk.

 

Rates for twenty year-old male and female drivers, which have dropped by around 7% this month, are now close to parity. New EU legislation is set to come into force on December 21, 2012.

Car insurance rules become more restrictive

More restrictive car insurance rules have come into effect as the government seeks to clamp down on uninsured drivers.

From Monday, drivers will need to declare their car as being off the road if they want to avoid buying insurance.

Previously, offenders had to be caught in the act of driving without insurance to be prosecuted.

Registered drivers who are found to be uninsured will be sent a warning letter, followed by a £100 penalty...
